Story of VT 715

Passengers' stories

From Ly Phuoc
  • Dec. 11, 1978 we left VN with 282 souls aboard
  • Dec. 17, 1978 to Singapore, about 5PM we land on beach, all of us been 1 night in jail.3 people pass away and have been buried in Singapore.
  • Dec. 18, 1978 noon time Singapore navy ship pull our boat back to open sea direct to Malaysia. During Singapore navy ship pull our boat to open sea on Dec 18, 1978 1 pass away and buried into ocean. So 278 people in VT715.
  • Dec. 19, 1978 morning we hit shore (some where at Johor, Malaysia), so UNHCR count Dec. 19, 1978 a date we arrived to refugee camp.
  • We really arrived to Pulau Tengah on Dec 22, 1978 morning.
  • Our boat not big, but there were 282 people in that boat when we left VN. I didn’t have any picture about Pulau Tengah, but that small island always on my mind. I wish some day I will go back to Tengah to see how Tengah has been changed; because I lived on that island almost 2 years.
